A Metal Oxide Varistor or MOV is the blue or orange colored circular component, MOV is simply a variable resistor, but unlike potentiometers, MOVs can change its resistance based on the applied voltage. If the voltage across it increases the resistance decreases and vice versa. This property is useful in protecting the circuits from high voltage spikes; hence they are mostly used as surge protectors in an electronic network
